YOGA SUTRA 3.10 Effortless inner silence is established through peaceful impressions

In this sutra, Patanjali offers us a bit of a double-agent:  

samskaras, our mental habits which so often cause us to think, act, and believe without taking the time to reflect (sam = with; kr = to do) can also be used for our own betterment.  If those habits are habits of mental clarity, in this case silence, then they can self-propagate and change our most basic ways of viewing the world, without our own overt knowledge of the process.  As Jaganath Carrera said in his comments on this sutra, “Our efforts are like powerful seeds that do most of their work out of sight.”   In the New Testament, Jesus often tells stories of planting.  One of his most basic messages seems to have been, you are here to till the soil and plant the seeds.  The unfolding of growth proceeds of its own accord. 

SUTRA 3.10 and for the beginning of the days of long days and summer sun… we pay some attention to the practice of Sun Salutations today….
