Radio Transfer – Communities in Dialogue

Das Projekt „Radio Transfer – Communities in Dialogue“ wird inhaltlich von Radio B138, dem freien Radio Salzkammergut und der Arge Zimbabwe mit Claudia Wegener und Peter Kuttan begleitet. Wolfgang „Fadi“ Dorninger unterstützt das Projekt mit seinem  „TongaMusicRemix“
Einer Live-Remix-Collage aus Ton – und Videoaufnahmen von Begegnungen mit der Musik der Tonga.

„Radio Transfer“ bringt Gemeinschaften in Dialog und das sogar über die Kontinente hinweg. Julian Ehrenreich (Radio B138) und Irmgard Herndler (NMS Scharnstein) starteten im Frühjahr ein gemeinsames Projekt zum kulturellen Austausch.
Jugendliche aus den dritten Klassen der NMS Scharnstein schicken „Audioletters“ mit einer Radiobrücke nach Zimbabwe und Sambia. Die Jugendlichen dort senden wiederum retour. Die Nachrichten betreffen Themen die Jugendliche auf allen Kontinenten gleichermaßen wichtig sind. Ausbildung, Zukunft, Hoffnungen und Träume, aber auch die ganz einfachen Dinge des Lebens wie das Lieblingsplatzerl zu Hause oder der Schulweg, die Lieblingsmusik.

„Radio verbindet nach wie vor global Menschen miteinander.“ sagt Mike Schedlberger der bereits zwei Mal beim sambischen Radio ZongweFM technische Missionen durchgeführt hat.

Das Radio in Sambia verbindet die Volksgruppe der Tonga über den Sambesi Stausee hinweg und ist an eine Schule und Bildungsprojekt gekoppelt.
Der Soziologe Peter Kuttan ist seit den frühen 1980er Jahren in Afrika aktiv.

Am 24.6 kann man sich in Scharnstein bei einem Konzert Highlight des Projektes bei der Radio Transfer Crew
genau über die Projekte informieren.
Ziel der Veranstaltung ist es auch an diesem besonderen Tag Unterstützung aus Österreich zu bekommen. Die afrikanischen Radios sollen in Zukunft mit einer PV-Anlage aus Österreich ausgestattet werden. Am 24.6 kann man sich vor Ort genauer mit den UnterstützerInnen austauschen und selbst aktiv werden.

Das Kulturhauptstadtjahr 2023 bringt zahlreiche Veranstaltungen ins äußere Salzkammergut. Das Projekt „Radio Transfer“ ist ein Projekt im Rahmen der Kulturhauptstadt 2023/2024 Bad Ischl/Salzkammergut

Mokoomba
Die sechsköpfige Live-Band „Mokoomba“ hat unzählige internationale Fans. Am Samstag des letzten Juniwochenendes präsentiert das Freie Radio B138 gemeinsam mit dem Kulturverein Mühldorf in Scharnstein ein musikalisches Highlight. Im Rahmen des Kulturhauptstadt Projektes „Radio Transfer“ sind die sechs Zimbabwischen Musiker im „Kultursägewerk Schönau 8“ zu Gast.
Ihre Tourneen gingen rund um den Globus und füllten in ihrer Heimat sogar Stadien.
„Mokoomba“ kombinieren traditionelle, afrikanische Klänge mit modernen Beats und Instrumenten.
Den Auftakt zur Veranstaltung macht die Band „Grenzwertig“ die ähnlich wie die Kollegen aus Zimbabwe traditionelle österreichische Musik mit neuen Stilen vereint.
Die ebenfalls sechs Musiker kommen aus drei Bundesländer und beherrschen Zugin, Gitarre und klassische Blech- und Percussion-Instrumente.

Bei Freien Eintritt wartet neben dem „Ohrenschmaus“ auch kulinarische Versorgung mit Foodtruck, Kulturvereinsbar, Weinbar und Eisstand auf zahlreiches Publikum.

Radio Transfer – Communities in dialogue: A project in the context of the                                     European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl/Salzkammergut 2024

The concert of the band Mokoomba from Zimbabwe on 24th June at the Old Sawmill Schoenau 8 in Scharnstein / AT is celebrating the building of a Radio Bridge North-South between the Alm and Zambezi rivers. The communication and exchange of stories between pupils at schools in Austria, Zambia and Zimbabwe has already started. Mokoomba, one of the highlights at the recent Bushfire Festival in Eswatini „is bringing their fire with a dazzling performance which had audience members singing along.“ https://mokoomba.band/  Their homeground is Chinotimba Township in Victoria Falls, a crosspoint of diverse people and cultures and located near one of the biggest waterfalls in the world. Mosi-oa-Tunya how it is called in Tonga language, the smoke that thunders, where the Zambezi plunges into the Batoka gorge.

The band name Mokoomba means ‚deep respect for the river‘, an ode to the Zambezi which is called Mulonga in the language of the local Tonga people. Tonga is synonymous to „the people of the great river“. And Mulonga summarises that concept as a spiritual reference to the river. It is deeply rooted in the history and culture that the Tonga people share, both on the Zambian and the Zimbabwean side. Mokoomba are ideal messengers to link up between people and cultures in the Zambezi Valley and in the Almtal in Upper Austria.

Zongwe FM is a Community Radio station of the Tonga people in Sinazongwe on the Northern shores of Lake Kariba how the dammed Zambezi is called. Since the radio station was set up in 2007, there has been an ongoing collaboration with some Free Radios in Austria facilitated by Austria-Zimbabwe Friendship Association AZFA in Linz and its partners Kunzwana Trust in Harare and Panos Southern Africa in Lusaka.

Radio B138  https://www.radiob138.at/ is not only hosting but also streaming the concert at the Old Sawmill Schoenau 8 in Scharnstein https://www.schoenau8.at/ in collaboration with Kulturverein Mühldorf and Freies Radio Salzkammergut. The concert is also the start of a fundraising campaign for the installation of a solar energy system to contribute to the sustainable running of Zongwe FM radio station in the future.
