Translation of the Arabic poem

07.12.2021

In September Saif (one of the Snapshots from the borders team members of Radio Helsinki) joined a day workshop where participants from different language backgrounds took a closer look into an old Arabic poem and dive into the process of translation. Since there are some words that do not exist anymore or are hard to be translated, they discussed language changes over the centuries. Can a rooster lay an egg? How much time does translation take? What were the difficulties they were facing and how did the translated poem sound at the end? Colleagues of outputs from the workshop recorded by Saif in today’s Snapshots episode.

„The Translation Lab was hosted by the Silent University in Austria | uniT as part of the Creative Europe-project „Smashing Wor(l)ds – Cultural Practices for re/Imagining & un/Learning Vocabularies„. It took place on the 25th and 26th of september 2021 at Literaturhaus Graz.“
