55-year-old Slovenian Alenka Smerkolj replaced Markus Reiterer (see photo) as Secretary General of the Alpine Convention on 15 July 2019. In this interview, Alenka Smerkolj talks about why she switched from financial management to politics five years ago, how she is setting up her role as the first female Secretary General of the Alpine Convention and what she considers to be the biggest problems and opportunities in the Alpine region.
