The new Greek coalition: Syriza and Independent Greeks
Syriza gained 36,3% of the vote in the recent legislative election in Greece, and with 149 of all 300 seats in the Hellenic parliament fell only two seats to govern alone. Alexis Tsipras‘ radical left-wing political party formed a coalition with populist right-wing political party Independent Greeks which obtained 13 seats in the parliament. Why Syriza has decided for such coalition, is this a strategic deed, what significant changes are already implemented by the new rulling government, why there is no female ministers, and why the government is taking „minimum-police-presence“ measures, explains Katja Lihtenvalner in the following interview. Lihtenvalner is regularly following Greek political scene, and she is a free journalist based in Athens.
