Der 1945 in Ottawa/Kanada geborene Musiker ist nicht nur ein begnadeter Sänger und Gitarrist, auch sein politisches Engagement gegen die Unterdrückung von Minderheiten, Umweltverschmutzung, Gewalt gegen indigene Völker oder sein Kampf gegen die Entwaldung des Amazonas brachte ihm weltweit viel Anerkennung ein und diese Missstände thematisiert er auch des Öfteren in seinen Songs.
