On Youth Unemployment (European Youth Event)

Within the European Youth Event which took a place from 9 to 11 May in Strasbourg, France, the workshop „Investing in the Future of Young People“ was held. It was organized by the Youth Future Think Tank (YFTT) in order to provide the information and tools regarding the youth unemployment problem in the European Union. The YFTT representatives, Junior Sikabwe and Antonis Stylianou held a workshop with two splitted groups, where one group of participants had to decide where do they want to alocate the money in order to resolve the problem of youth unemployment. In the meanwhile the other group of participants discussed youth policies (with regard to a national educational systems).

In separate event titled „Erasmus+ Non-formal learning opportunities for Youth“, Pascal Lejeune, Head of Unit at Youth in Action of the European Commision, explained which are the competences that young people can acquire with the Erasmus+ programme. The programme has replaced several old (Erasmus Mundus, European Voluntary Service etc.), and it is called Erasmus+ now. It is offering European opportunities in the fields of education, training, youth and sport, and since this year it made its access easier, changes in the rules mean it is easier to apply. The event took a place on 9 May within the European Youth Event.

Sebastiaan Rood is youth representative at European Affairs in Dutch Youth Parliament, he was one of the participants at the workshop „Investing in the Future of Young People“. He explained his impression from the workshop.
