Medicine: Tests before surgery changed

Millions of patients the world over have surgery every year. Until now, heart function is almost always tested before surgery in patients 50 years of age or older. However, cardiovascular assessment before surgery was developed further, and the corresponding guideline has been updated. The data show that there is no need any more for stress testing for the heart before surgery for many patients.
And there is related news. The perioperative period is the time immediately before, during and after a patient’s surgery. A high-quality clinical study showed that taking low-dose aspirin during the perioperative period leads to no benefit.
