Medicine: No more stenting of kidney artery; Changes in intensive care units

30.07.2014

No more stenting of the blood vessel of the kidney: Three large randomised controlled clinical trials showed that stenting does not benefit patients with moderate or severe hardening of the kidney artery. Conservative medical treatment is enough.
There are two changes worth making in intensive care units: Researchers confirmed that prone positioning in intensive care units does help mechanically ventilated patients. However, gastric-residual monitoring (checking if food is still there in the stomach) does not help mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care units. This practice can be stopped.
