– KVIR_FEMINIST
– ACTZIYA
The kvir_feminist_actziya is a self-organized, non-commercial festival, which took place for the first time in June 2013 in Vienna. The actziya is a place for connecting, exchange, self-representation and empowerment for activists, artists, researchers etc. from the imagined space called the global “East” as well as for migrants from this space living in the “West”. The actziya is a space, where “East” and “West” activisms and approaches can meet in a “reversed” power relation: the programme is filled with contributions coming from the imagined space of “the global East”, giving voice to the often marginalized and silenced agents from there, while the “Westerners” are all of a sudden in the position of the listening ones. Our Festival is a D.I.Y/D.I.T Festival, which stands for “do it yourself” and “do it together” and is about collectively shared responsibilites. We, as a self-organized political collective are just a bunch of activists and not some fancy established institution, therefore it is vitally important for all participants of the actziya to contribute to the organization of the festival as far as they have the ressources and the time.
– INTERVENCIYA
The festival is also an important intervention in the queer-feminist scene of Vienna and its “Western” norms of queerness and feminisms. kvir asks how “queer” concepts can be translated into other contexts, what gets lost during processes of translation due to hegemonic powers at play and how theories, ideas and bodies migrate trans-regionally. Kvir suggests, that queer ideas can not only wander from “West” to “East”, but also that kvir, as its own discourse, can travel from “East” to “West”. Therefore kvir is always already an important intervention into “Western” privileged spaces. Unfortunately, many events and groups organized and run by queer/kvir_feminists no matter whether in “East” or “West” contexts remain white or at least white-dominated initiatives. Also our collective is a white collective that still does not have sufficient strategies or solutions on the question of how to deal with racism as an oppressive structure and reality in both, “East” AND “West”, on how to reflect and share white priviliges in every place possible and how to go beyond the mere lip services of an anti-racist rhetoric. However, we, as white migrants from the kvir_feminist_ collective, refuse to claim the forms of othering and culturalism we are experiencing in the “West” as racism.– SOLIDARNOST
In the long run, the kvir_feminist_collective seeks to create a transregional (cyber)space, where people can meet to exchange and discuss possibilities and forms of queer_feminist activism in different contexts. Together we want to keep kviring the Western monopoly on queer, linking the concepts kvir, feminism and many more, questioning and transgressing norms and borders, pointing to Western hegemonies, privileges and biases, and looking for ways of mutual support, solidarity and action. One important cornerstone of our kvir philosophy of solidarity is that solidarity should never happen for the (re)affirmation of Western identities, concepts and ideas, but always according to the needs and ideas of those who ask for it. We want to create new forms of solidarity and to re-signify it as a form of radical politics rather than a necessary feature of the neoliberal (“North/Western”) world.Ähnliche Beiträge
