CINÉMA AFRICAIN!: Exploring Feminism, Identity, and the Future of Film

The first CINÉMA AFRICAIN! took place from October 23 to 26 across various venues in Linz. This new film festival brought Africa’s energy and creativity to the forefront through groundbreaking films from Africa and its diaspora. The event challenged stereotypes and fostered deeper understanding of African realities and their global impact.
The program showcased intimate portraits, socially critical documentaries, and narratives tackling mythology, identity, colonialism, feminism, and coming-of-age—all with a focus on women’s* perspectives. Beyond screenings, the festival offered engaging events like Q&A sessions, masterclasses, panel discussions, and more.
In the current radio show, we are featuring interviews with three remarkable guests who attended the festival in Linz::
Nadia Denton, is a film curator, public speaker, and impact producer with nearly 20 years of experience. She coined the term “Beyond Nollywood” to spotlight the diversity of Nigerian cinema Lilis Soares, is a Brazilian cinematographer who worked on the Nigerian film Mami Wata, and Simisolaoluwa Akande, is a director and actor known for projects like Ojumo Ti Mo and The Archive: Queer NigeriansMusic (C): Simi & FAVE, YEИDRY feat. Lous and The Yakuza, and Rokia Traoré
