Born in Lases (Trento), she was the fourth of eleven children. From 1936 onwards she worked as a maid for a Jewish family in Milan, but lost this job due to the racial laws of 1938. In 1942, she was recruited to work for a large agricultural enterprise in Germany, where she met her future husband. She had two daughters, Luciana, born in 1943 and Giuliana, born in 1944. Her husband died in 1947. She was later employed as a farm worker until she reached retirement age.
